pixie fairy 101

Grace Liu

shooting stars’ pockets hold wishes, she said.
girl puckers a cherry smile, jaundiced cheeks

under the fat light of a moon, face illuminated.
see, she has swallowed the universe whole, yet does

not know of the pearls & spoonfuls of moondust
gliding down her throat like an omen. she prays

for shooting stars instead. an astrophile’s ecstasy:
hair-shedding, deranged pixie fairy who didn’t make

it home from the party. instead found a tipsy
green grin in the styrofoam cups, drawling

my, what a lovely day, syllables rolling in a
pendulum. see, girl knows of a romantic glass

of pink-salted water for a lover, finds pleasure
in party favors & cupped palms, sweat stains

under her citrus breath. blowing out candles,
making a shitty wish upon the hollow auditorium

of another starless sky.
