spring melody

Lisa Armstrong

The melodious sounds of spring have sprung
Vivaldi’s allegro rises up
bursting through the undergrowth
each note planting a delicate kiss
upon the heads of spring buds

Sunlight sifts through the mossy earth
heating up the tempo just a little
while a citrus sorbet of daffodils
brings a warm smile to the lips
of heartbroken maidens

Persephone’s daughters rejoice
weaving flowers plucked from the dewy meadow
into dark tresses
crocuses, hyacinths
a primrose or two

Spring has arrived, they chant
on their tiptoes
they rouse the earth and its creatures from slumber
hope and humanity are returning
